These port holes look like windows. Only the lower stateroom cabin port hole at port bow is a real window. The other grey elliptical holes are vents and flood holes.
The stateroom cabin port window was selected to suit the vent and flood hole shape. Painting the vent and flood holes a chrome colour after was done to improve the lining of the vessel and to add levels to the design.
Though they are not real windows they do not provide false appearance. The saloon and galley cabins are lighted by large windows above deck. Those, gaps, were never there.
