Battery Blackout 2

6/30/2016

At first I blamed the fridge for the constant power drains I read from the battery monitor. I did wonder if it was ignorance that brought me to this conclusion and it was only near to derision that I thought so. Here's why:

'When the bats are fully charged, the chargers go into float mode, at approx. 13.2-13.5v.

If you put load on the bats. The charger should go into charge mode at 14.2v and increase the amps as required.
Best Stephen'

However, the fridge was very loud and needed to be changed for ergonomical reasons if nothing else.

Scrubbed the decks

The little marks of algie took two scouwering pads to clear. I used a strong cleaner which had to be diluted with water. On the rest of the GRP fibreglass I used normal boat soap. It looks better as you can see from the before and after shots. It wasn't too bad but without watching for these things a nightmare too easily arrives.

Running Nowhere 2

The battery monitor has provided me with a couple new questions: 1. Why does it it only show 0.6 amps being input into the batteries through a 10 amp charger? 2. Why and what are the vaults reading jumping between 5 and 15 being input in the batteries?

On a positive not, despite the monitor showing power drains, which I've manually lessened by switch systems off, the engines started fine.

I intend on checking this more thoroughly but I think I might be acting ignorant about something which is working fine and I'm running nowhere fussing about nothing. We'll see ....

A Smashing Tale

I have to work through 30+ degrees in TandEadapt creating August's short story. It was partly inspired by the crashing into our yacht during the wind gales. Summer is heating up for sure. A very deep and allegorical piece which is on its way to completion, a smashing tale. You can read June's short story with the link below.

Flag knots 1

The largest flag on TandEadapt is aft, the British Union Jack with Red Ensign for public Citizens of the UK. The other two flags are the star spangled banner, representing American lineage and the foreigners Spanish flag, acknowledging that we are on Spanish waters.

To tie these securely I used a Sailors Gripping Hitch and a Zeppelin Bend knot.

Running nowhere

Engine started smoothly and ran well. TandEadapt has low milage on refurbished engines. This is the first chance I've had to run her for 20 minutes in nutral since I received her 3 years ago. It's running nowhere right 😂. Seriously, I have prioritised running the engines properly from this point onwards. I won't be made to appear insouciant like that again.

Battery Blackout

I didn't think I'd need to be monitoring the ships power output so closely when berthed. However, today before leaving to shower in the marina wash facilities, I checked the battery gauge, as I always do before leaving, TandEadapt. The moniter was on a red light, meaning the new batteries were almost half depleted. I went for the shower and watched this closely after I came back.

To recharge the new battery's I've switched from 10amp charging to 40. Within in hour of darkness, I've gone back into green on the battery gauge. Unfortunately I've had to switch the fridge off. Even more unfortunately I have to change it, as it's been a constant power drain and noise pollution from the galley. It is the sole cause of this power drain. There is a new fridge on board stowed away somewhere. Won't find it in the blackout though. Hope I can stay this cool on the swells of the Mediterranean waters.

A Service of Diesel Power

This was a flat service at first. I needed to purchase 4 new batteries, thankfully safe of being impoverished only by calculated saving and the blessing of a little help from the folks. Soon as they were connected we saw the service of diesel power and it sounded great.

The service included new filters, new impellers and new batteries
