There were difficult considerations deciding between the Bourne 43, which had awesome top sides, massive accommodation and stabilisers, against the Colvic 38 which was smaller. The decision was unanimous for the Colvics speed, reaching 20 + knots, impressively fast for a long distance trawler. Also, for myself it was a better training vessel, although 38 feet is not recommended to study on. After acquiring my skipper licence 38 feet didn't scare me though. I intend on making massive passages with the Colvic, hence the prep work being blogged. This is her 08/15, after upgrades.
